Virtual Art Class: Botanical Drawing Primer

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday March 20

10:00 AM  –  12:30 PM

How can we better see and understand the natural world through botanical drawing? In this interactive online workshop, we will combine close sensory observation of our local neighborhood (or indoor!) flora with the act of mindful drawing, working in a range of mediums and easily-accessible techniques.

Whether you’re an experienced artist or are just starting out, this is an opportunity to create intimate botanical artworks that reflect the rich natural environment that surrounds us, wherever we may be. We will do a number of short studies to strengthen our perception of line, form, structure, and texture, and will synthesize techniques to produce one larger piece. No previous drawing experience is required, just a curiosity about exploring natural forms through sensory observation and markmaking.

This interactive online class is presented via Zoom, and is best experienced on a laptop or computer monitor with a large screen and webcam. Please download the free Zoom app onto your computer (www.zoom.us) prior to the workshop.

Class price includes a materials packet sent to US participants via Priority Mail, including all paper and materials you'll need for the workshop (and more!). Please register by 3/11 to ensure your kit will be mailed out, otherwise you will need to stop by the CMA to pick up your supplies.

Class runtime: 10 am-12:30 p.m.
